Контролът на изкуственото осветление в работни и битови среди е съществен за осигуряване на зрителен комфорт, безопасност и производителност, като предотвратява умора, грешки и аварии. Според Наредба № 49 за изкуствено осветление на сградите (обн. ДВ, бр. 7 от 23.01.1976 г., с изменения), нормите се прилагат за проектиране, изграждане и експлоатация на осветителни уредби в нови и реконструирани обекти, включително производствени, обществени и жилищни сгради. Те обхващат работно и аварийно осветление, с изисквания за осветеност, равномерност, отблясък и цветопредаване. БДС EN 12464-1:2021 "Светлина и осветление. Осветление на работни места. Част 1: Работни места на закрито" актуализира европейските стандарти за вътрешно осветление, фокусирайки се върху зрителния комфорт и работоспособност, с препоръки за комбинация с естествено осветление. Контролът се извършва от акредитирани органи или специалисти, с издаване на протоколи за съответствие, задължителни за Инспекцията по труда и застрахователни цели. Периодичните измервания се регулират от Наредба № 7 от 1999 г. за минимални изисквания за ЗБУТ и Наредба № 16-116 от 2008 г. за енергообзавеждане.
